Being a mother is tough. Being a single mother is a burden that becomes almost impossible to cope with, without the necessary support system. However, in no way does that ever justify what South Carolina resident Shaquan Dooley has done to her 2 year-old Devean, and Ja’van.
Shaquan is now being charged as the responsible party, for suffocating her two children, and trying to stage a car accident to make it look like the deaths occurred from the accident. Orangeburg County Sheriff-Deputy Larry Williams, and his staff were immediately aware of the fallacies proposed by Duley regarding the incident. They arrested her for leaving the scene of an accident, and then later charged her with the murders of the two babies.
Williams seemed sympathetic towards Shaquan in his remarks, saying that the burden of being a single mother was too much for her and she wanted to get rid of the kids. But anytime a person makes a victim out of the innocent, especially a child, sympathy should be thrown right out the window.
Just like my feelings towards Vander Sloot, just like my feelings towards the ‘Craiglist Killer,’ and every other piece of trash that make up their kind, these people need to be tortured.
In instances like these, lawyers of the defendant, and the defendant themselves, yearn to claim insanity. But the logic of punishing someone less severely because they were supposedly insane, makes no sense, and it never will. The fact is, they committed the crime, and they should be responsible for it.
In 2001 the conviction, and sentence to life in prison for 
Andrea Yates, who drowned her five children in the bathtub, was overturned for reason of insanity. Now she is living in a minimal security mental hospital, being treated and not punished. Whether voices told her to do it, or not, what the fuck does it matter? Voices tell us to do things all the time, it’s called our conscience. Why bother distinguishing between who is insane, or not, rather judge for the crimes they committed?
If it was me handing out the punishments, I’d have Andrea Yates be drowned nearly to death, 5 times, and then have her finished with her head to a vice for about 5 hours until the grand finally where her head is smushed and her eyes pop out, like what Joe Pesci’s character Nicky Sartori did in ‘Casino,’ except if she were to survive, she would be left for dead. For Shaquan Duley, she should be suffocated in a trunk, tied up, and with blockages to her breathing areas. The car should be driven into a lake, and if she miraculously escapes, there will be a firing squad to await her.

No need to be ignorant and indict a whole race because of what she did. It was America that brought ‘them,’ here and committed the greatest atrocity in domestic history, and continued it for decades.

every race on the planet has been enslaved by another throughout the course of history. i’m sure not excusing it or anything, slavery truly is and was an oppressive horror, but in no way is this history exclusive to black people in america ( or england, france, holland { who, by the way, are the architects of the modern slave trade. slavery was more of a result of conquest, classism and caste system governments. the dutch turned it into a trade for commerce.}) the jews were enslaved for hundreds of years by the EGYPTIANS, who, last time i checked, were from AFRICA. besides, most slaves were bartered for in their homeland, where they were already enslaved for generations. america IS racist. but what country isn’t? look at the continent of africa: rwanda, the zulu wars, darfur, the sudan, liberia……we can go on and on. know what the root of ALL those atrocities were? no, not the white man diamonds. RACE. tribes of people doing horrific things to other tribes of people. kick your crutch out and man up. read up on how italian and irish immigrants were treated when they got here. overcome adversity and quit crying, already……….it is SO boring.
In AMERICA, slavery is exclusive to blacks. To say that slavery, and segregation does not have an effect on blacks today is ignorant. Most people with money in this country attain it from a legacy, in many different forms whether it is an inheritance of money, or a career that is available because of nepotism. How were blacks supposed to establish any capital, when they weren’t allowed to dwell in white neighborhoods, or get a loan? Only thing they could do was establish their own business which they tried, but if you were purveyed to the fact that when cities like Kansas City, Detroit, and many others did establish a black middle-class, the National Guard was sent in and destroyed the foundation. Sure Irish, and Italians were mistreated, but not to the degree that blacks were, and also it is much easier for them to assimilate than blacks. And yes, slavery is a long lived institution unfortunately, but if that’s the rationalization for America enslaving blacks then you got a fucked up point of view. Of course nowadays it’s a point where personal responsibility triumphs more than ever, but if you dismiss slavery, and segregation as something that has no effect on the symptoms of black poverty today, then your arithmetic skills (putting things together) needs improvement.
you have a valid point and i respect it but i think you are interpreting my comment differently than the intent. i would never rationalize slavery in any way. my intent was to illustrate the institution as a whole because, for many, the issue is exclusively american. my ancestors are from portugal, where the caste system actually originated. i’m sure some pretty horrific shit went down during the 16th or 17th century, when the practice was at an all time high there. they were whipped, beaten, killed. is jim crow alive and well? sure, but to act like america is this evil place that hates black people is, in my opinion, ridiculous. so many black people act like other people ( i.e. white ) owe them something. with that mentality, how could they ever be accountable for anything they do? cracker this, cracker that. has a black dude ever been sued or lost his job over saying shit like that? i bet not. your pain is no greater than mine, and vice versa. ok, so there’s poor black people. there are poor from all walks of life and, trust me, the government and upper class wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire.
by the way, there were chinese slaves, spanish slaves, puerto rican slaves and let’s not forget the enslavement and genocide of the indigenous folk (to build the railroad from missouri to utah, among other things). No one is saying America is the almighty evil, and no one is saying there are not injustices all over world. Yeah, the Natives got it worse than anyone, unfortunately they were the product of a genocide, and there are no social symptoms to evaluate and determine the effects of something that occurred 200 years ago. There are very little social means to evaluate genocide of native americans, besides the despair many of them live with in reservations across the country. Other than that, how could you evaluate the social means of a people who have a very small population? Nobody is saying ‘black plight’ is more important than another, but with its relativity to America, it is the most significant because this is where it happened, and this is where the affects will be noticed.
While I agree that what this woman and Yates did are horrible crimes against one’s own children, mental illness absolutely do have a different burden than the rest of the population. “By reason of insanity” is a valid defense, whether or not you believe mental illness is real. You claim we all hear voices but that is not true. Do you hear actual auditory hallucinations commanding you to do things? Are you under the delusion that you are the second coming of Jesus Christ and that if you die you’ll be resurrected in three days? Do you see other people in the mirror who tell you to kill yourself? I have a background in working with mentally disturbed youth and I will tell you that mental illness is absolutely real. I do believe that Andrea Yates should spend the rest of her days in a psychiatric facility but to say that she has the same mental faculties as people without mental illness and therefore should be judged in the same way is just ignorant.
And by the way, yes, I am a parent and I do believe these crimes are heinous.
Whether she is mentally ill or not, why is she granted the privilege of a more comfortable living environment, and the chance of release as opposed to someone who was not deemed mentally ill and therefore became the recipient of a more suitable punishment by the government? The point of working with mentally ill patients is to keep them from committing heinous acts, or treat them after a less heinous act occurs. But once an act such as this one is committed, why should their punishment be deemed differently because they are mentally ill? In my mind, once an act such as these ones are committed, then it is immoral to treat someone who committed an action with no redeeming value.

Yes Andrea Yats has become the poster girl for white america’s insanity defense. Claiming she has to be insane to kill her three children. What does Shaquan have to do? Pull her own hair, claims she hears voices from Satan and threaten to kill herself. Shaquan unfortunately has an stereotypical “ethnic” name, is not married, was on welfare, is dark in skin color and is overweight—off to the gallows she goes.
The sympathy for Andrea Yates is sickening. She should get the death penalty–I don’t have a problem with it.
